In this episode of Not an Alien, Alex shares the story of her own immigration – with her family, as a young child – from the then-Soviet Union to the United States. As Jewish refugees, they landed in Queens, New York before eventually settling in Connecticut, where Alex rapidly adjusted to life in America, her older brother struggled somewhat at first, and her parents and grandmother were happy to find a strong community of Russian emigres with which to connect. In law school, Alex eventually found herself drawn to immigration law, and she is now a practicing immigration attorney in Virginia, where her practice centers on removal defense for her clients, many of whom are Central American.
