In this episode of Not an Alien, Brahim shares the story of his immigration journey from Morocco to New York City. Having completed his college degree in physics, Brahim was interested in becoming a teacher, but finding a lack of real opportunity in his own country, he entered the green card lottery, and, upon winning it, moved to the United States. Early hopes of becoming a teacher in America gave way to pessimism, and after meeting and marrying his now wife and starting a family, he settled into driving a taxi for a living, and has long since become an American citizen. Heartfelt and unsparing, Brahim’s interview sheds light on his homesickness and his hopes for his American children, as well as on many of the challenges of life for immigrants in the United States.
