In this episode of Not an Alien, Raziel shares the story of her personal and professional journey from Mexico to the United States and back again. Never having imagined moving to the U.S., Raziel found her work as an ethnographer and sociologist – studying and living with migrant workers from Morelos State – drawing her to Minnesota. Graduate work in New York City presented the opportunity for longer residence in the United States, and with her dissertation now well underway in Mexico, Raziel continues to balance heart ties and professional opportunities between Mexico and the U.S. In addition to charting Raziel’s own compelling personal journey, this interview offers an intimate, yet erudite, view of the challenges inherent in, and social and political dynamics underlying the massive migrations north from the heartland of the United States’ third largest trading partner.
