Episode #34: Justin – From Malaysia to New York as a Child

In this episode of Not an Alien, Justin recounts his immigration journey from Malaysia to the United States. From an impoverished – but experientially rich – childhood in Malaysia, he found himself, and his family, relocated to Queens. Speaking little English, he at first faced sharp transition pains and was subjected to bullying at school and in his neighborhood. Having lived, at first, ten people to a room, and after a stint trying to put himself through Hunter College while working more than full-time in his father’s restaurant, Justin is now a successful business owner in Manhattan. He concludes this powerful interview by highlighting the sacrifices made by his own father and his hopes for his own son.
